Adult Training

The Girl Scouts of Southwest Georgia has a very aggressive adult training program. With more than 12 qualified trainers throughout our 34 county area, we are able to train new and existing volunteers quickly and easily. We also offer a wide variety of training and enrichment programs during a fun and excitement packed weekend at beautiful Camp Okit.

Course Descriptions:  

Basic Leader Training:  Required of all leaders and assistant leaders.  This course gives you examples of activities including a simple flag ceremony, program and event ideas.  It defines the aspects of Girl Scouting and identifies the responsibilities of a Girl Scout Leader.  Prerequisite:  Overview & Getting Started.

Age Level Training:  (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette & Senior) required of all leaders and assistant leaders.  This course covers age level appropriate information such as how to plan a troop meeting and explains the significance of the girl/adult partnership in Girl Scouting.  It offers some basic program ideas as well.  Prerequisite:  Overview & Getting Started and Basic Leader Training.

Ceremonies:  Volunteers will learn to perform Girl Scout and Flag ceremonies working directly from Ceremonies in Girl Scouting.  Prerequisite:  Basic Leader Training and Age Level Training.

Songs:  Volunteers will learn traditional and new Girl Scout songs for everyday and camp. This is a great way to create lasting memories for you and the girls. Prerequisite:  Basic Leader Training and Age Level Training.

CPR & First Aid:  This course teaches the basics of first aid safety and CPR.  It requires a hands-on skills test as well as a written examination.  Certified Red Cross instructors teach this course at a reduced cost through the Council to registered Girl Scouts only.  It can also be taken through agencies such a Red Cross or the American Heart Association. Prerequisite:  Basic Leader Training and Age Level Training.  **Fee: $5.00 per certificate.  

Outdoor Training:  This course teaches Council and Safety Wise requirements for “Looking Out”, “Meeting Out”, Hiking Out”, “Walking Out” and “Camping Out”.  This course will help you understand the progression of Outdoor skills and experiences.  Prerequisite:  Basic Leader Training and Age Level Training.

 

Volunteer Recognitions                   

Outstanding Volunteer Award For an adult member in a position other than leader For service to a geographic area unit or program delivery audience that is beyond the expectations for the position.
Outstanding Leader Award For a group leader, assistant leader or coordinator For outstanding performance in working with girls.
Appreciation Pin For and adult member for service to a geographic area program delivery audience that furthers the council's goals.
Honor Pin For an adult member For outstanding service to two or more geographic areas or program delivery audiences.
Thanks Badge For and adult member For truly outstanding service that benefits the total council or entire movement.
Thanks Badge II For a previous Thanks Badge recipient For continuing to contribute in outstanding ways that benefit the total council or entire movement.
