Destinations Information

A destination is your chance to go somewhere new, do something different, and meet people from everywhere you can imagine.

  • Choose from many types of events. See what life is really like for an M.D. or camp in the green depths of the Costa Rican rainforest.

  • You can travel around the corner or around the globe.

  • Check the site often—Getaway destinations are constantly being added.

  • Don't be intimidated by the price. Many of the events are offered at reduced prices from what the public would be charged. Plus, there may be funding from your local Girl Scout council and Girl Scouts of the USA can help you with ideas for raising money for your trip.

A destination Match

There are six categories of destinations. Which one is right for you?

  • International—events outside of the U.S.

  • Outdoors—events ranging from learning outdoor skills to Outward Bound challenges on land or sea.

  • Science—events that take science to a new level. Learn animal behavior or what a doctor's life is like.

  • People—events that visit cities and country sides so you can experience the culture of new places.

  • Apprenticeships—events that give you hands-on, real-life experience in a potential career field.

  • Getaways—Two- to four-day events all over the country, that don't require the 2007 Girl Scout destinations application.

Rockin' Adventure

In North Carolina, Girls Rock!

Are you ready to climb to new heights?

Picture It

By the end of this course, you'll be climbing with style and skill that would put Spiderman to shame. Head out with up to 12 other girls to some of the most diverse and exciting rock sites in the East. Whether you are a complete novice or have conquered the local climbing wall, you'll find challenge and excitement on the real rock of the Appalachian Mountains. Massive boulders and granite outcroppings (considered by those in the know to be among the best climbs) that pepper the area are perfect for learning to climb and belay.

You'll start out learning balance and movement skills while bouldering. Each day you climb, you learn and practice new techniques, progressing with encouragement from your crew and instructors. As your skills develop, so do the challenges, working up to a climb toward the summit of "Table Rock" or White Rock Mountain. Throughout the day, you ascend higher and higher up the mountain, while your view of the surrounding area becomes more panoramic and breathtaking.

Sleepless in Seattle?

Explore this vibrant city
in the scenic Pacific Northwest

Thanks to TV shows and movies, everyone knows that the Space Needle is in Seattle. However, those of us who live here know that there is much, much more! See fish fly and climb, go ‘underground’ and see the original city, climb onboard the original Air Force One, get the tackiest souvenirs at Ye Olde Curiosity Shop, and find the troll hiding under the bridge.

Picture It

Imagine a trip where meeting fascinating people, hearing tales of unexpected adventures, and participating in intercultural dialogue is routine. Anyone who has ever spent any time in a hostel common room knows it happens. Spend three days and two nights at the HI-Seattle hostel, with a great mix of opportunities to learn about Seattle, hostels, and other people. With this Getaway you can have fun and quench your thirst to travel the world.

Your three-day/two-night package includes breakfast in our common room (where you’ll meet more than 100 fellow travelers), an interactive World Travel 101 session (where you’ll learn the basics of international travel, with a special emphasis on cultural understanding and responsible travel) and admission to the following attractions:

Woodland Park Zoo: 92-acre, award-winning zoo hailed for its naturalistic exhibits
Space Needle: "Live the View!", 520 feet above Seattle with 360° of breathtaking views
Pacific Science Center: hands-on science exhibits, planetarium, laser light shows, IMAX®, Tropical Butterfly House, and InsectVillage
Seattle Aquarium: Walk through an underwater dome surrounded by 400,000 gallons of water and sea life
Seattle Harbor Tour: one-hour live narrated cruise of Elliott Bay and the Seattle Harbor
The Museum of Flight: From the Wright brothers to outer space -- more than 60 historic aircraft

Spend the evenings learning to say hello and good-bye in different languages, hanging out in the hostel kitchen or game room with a world map and getting hostellers to sign their names on their home country, or join other hostellers and help make an international dinner in our group-size kitchen.

In addition, there’s only one-way to determine if it really rains all the time – come and find out for yourself!  (Don’t worry – Chicago, Houston, New York City and Miami all get more rain!)

Juliette Low Camp

Would you like to take care of girls with disabilities, develop leadership skills, and make a contribution to another person's life?

Then become a camp counselor at Juliette Low Camp, a camp for girls with physical disabilities and their non-disabled peers operated by Girl Scouts of Mid-Continent Council and Rotary Club No. 13. As a selected counselor, you will train with experienced, special-education professionals prior to the start of camp.

Picture It

Imagine a place where girls with physical disabilities can enjoy the resident camp experience – sleeping in a tent, singing around the campfire, swimming in a wheelchair-accessible pool, and, most importantly, forming friendships that last a lifetime. Now imagine a place where YOU make it all possible – bringing joy to these campers, learning what it takes to work in a disability-related field, and forming bonds that you will forever remember. That place is Juliette Low Camp, in beautiful Lake Jacomo, Missouri, where more than 100 girls with physical disabilities and their friends join together with 36 teen Girl Scouts; ages 15-18, from throughout the U.S. for an unforgettable experience.

During each camp session, you will provide the campers with the opportunity to enjoy swimming, songs, games and campfires. You will also assist/take care of the campers' dressing, feeding, personal care, and transportation around the camp (wheelchair power!). From opening day to the closing campfire, you will have the chance to provide a summer of memories for a special group of young girls.
